It was late - almost midnight - by a quarry near the forest.

The police had arrived as a car had been reported for driving in an erratic manner. The woman was clearly very uncomfortable and didn't want the officers to look inside the two suitcases.

The bodycam is startling as an officer opens one of the bags. There is an audible sharp exhale of breath when what he is looking at hits home. The officer says in both horror and astonishment: "What the f***."

Lauren Jeska was a fell runner.

As a transgender athlete, she had been asked to provide evidence of hormone levels after historical complaints to UK Athletics that she had an unfair advantage competing in women?s events because she had been born a man.

The policy of the governing body required the athlete to take a blood test, but she took exception to this and feared being unable to compete.

Lauren saw this as an attack on her life and decided to take drastic action.

21 year old Libby Squire, who was studying philosophy at Hull University, had been out with her friends that Thursday evening. At the police conference, officers appealed for information about the death of 21 year old Richard Holmes. They told how Richard was shot and killed in Greenham Crescent in the Chingford Hall estate as he defended a 16-year-old boy against a group of men. He was found dead in the early hours of the morning.

Three witnesses came forward with information, and all pointed to a rising star in the UK grime music scene being responsible - Carl Dobson, better know as Crazy Titch....

Police enquiries pointed to a local groundworker Mark Brown and a yard he rented near Hastings: a yard with buildings and a shipping container at Little Bridge Farm. But as detectives searched for Alexandra, they found medication relating to another missing woman, Leah Ware.

Was Mark Brown responsible for both disappearances?

Euan Johnston went for dinner with a friend in the centre of Glasgow, but whilst he was eating he was unaware he was being watched. And when he left, the Audi pulled out behind his car and followed, waiting for the right time.

The traffic lights offered the opportunity and the gunman jumped out of the car and fired three shots at Euan at point blank range. At just 26, Euan died from his injuries.

But who killed him and left two children without a father? And why?

Disaster struck the family home when one of the daughters of the Stringer family, Karen, was just 10 years old. It was only due to Karen?s quick thinking and reactions that the family all were able to leave the house safely. Karen's heroic actions of that day made the papers, with headlines shouting out about Karen?s bravery and how she had saved her family from a very tricky situation. 

However, this traumatic event caused a lifelong fascination with fire for Karen which caused many issues and eventually resulted in murder.....

It was 11.57pm  when the emergency services were called to a house fire in Woking, Surrey. The call was made by a panicking and distressed Alan Jermey. On the call to the fire service, Alan confirmed he was on the roof of the house with his two young daughters, ?I'm upstairs, the fire is downstairs. There is just smoke coming up.? It was two minutes into the call that he told the operator: ?The thing is, I don't know where my partner is.... I went to bed early???.

His wife called the police and when they arrived at his garage they found his body: he had been brutally murdered. This week, I sat down with Grace, host of the excellent REDRUM podcast, as we looked at the dreadful murder of Sasha Marsden, who was just 16 when she was stabbed to death by David Minto, the caretaker of a hotel in Blackpool.

Sasha thought she had secured a cleaning job but Minto attacked Sasha and stabbed her more than 100 times before sexually assaulting her and dumping and setting fire to Sasha's body outside.

This week, the Uk True Crime podcast heads to Clothes Show Live at the NEC Birmingham.

The Loch of Kinnordy nature reserve in Kirriemuir, north-east Scotland, is a beautiful place where you can find amazing wildlife including otters, red squirrels and red deer. 

But amid all this beauty, a sight of pure horror met two member of the publics at this spot early one morning. Inside the car park, they discovered the lifeless body of 27 year old Steven Donaldson lying next to a burnt out car.

When Rebecca Aylward went to secondary school near her home in Maesteg, South Wales, she met Joshua Davies and the pair quickly hit it off and became firm friends.

Rebecca and Joshua were both academic, worked hard and were soon top of the class in their results. Soon the pair began to date, but then there were concerns about Joshua's behaviour. Concerns that continued to grow, but nobody could have predicted that Joshua was capable of extreme violence. And murder.

Newly released from prison and a newcomer to the village, John McGeechan thought that robbing this store would be an easy way to give him the money to buy his next heroin fix. But the robbery went very wrong with 34 year old Ahmjid losing his life after being stabbed repeatedly.

Everyone like John Hirst. So much so he was even known at his home in Majorca as 'Nice John'. He was found in all the right clubs and at all the events where the wealthy ex-pats gathered on the Island.

Perma-tanned John lived in an expensive villa with his wife Linda and they enjoyed a fantastic lifestyle  with all the trappings of success with many exotic holidays, designer clothes and jewellery, a luxury motor boat and two top of the range cars ? an open topped sports car for Linda and a top of the range Mercedes for John.

But this apparent success was all based on lies and deception, and as the financial markets declined, John fled back to the UK knowing that everything was about to come crashing down, ruining the lives of many of his friends who had trusted him with their money.

Paul and Paula Ramsden drove the hour or so south to Beachy Head for a picnic, which they enjoyed just feet from the cliff edge. Just before 5pm, they decided to head back to the car. Firefighters were called to a house fire in a small village, just north of Nottingham. They quickly extinguished the blaze but inside the house, tragically they found the body of mum of two, Jacqueline Bartlam. But Jacqueline had not succumbed to the flames or smoke inhalation, she had been brutally beaten and murdered before the house was set on fire.

If that wasn?t shocking enough, detectives soon realised that the person who had killed Jacqueline was her own 14 year old son, Daniel...

Detectives believed they had identified the murderer and when they entered the bedroom of 18 year old Danyal Hussein in south-east London, they found a handwritten note,  signed in his own blood, about how he had made a pact with a demon called 'Lucifuge Rofocale'. According to black magic, this demon is in charge of Hell's Government and Treasury by order of Lucifer. 

The pact he had signed was to murder six women every six months in return for financial reward, including winning the lottery...

Scott Tarrant had told his partner Rebecca that after the England match he would go around her house for the night. But by 8.41 when he still hadn't appeared, she texted 'I Hate You' and made other plans for the evening, inviting around her ex-boyfriend.

Mother of murderer smuggled drugs to him in prison hidden in Kinder Egg | Eastern Daily Press (edp24.co.uk)

The story this week is from the north-east of England.

Four teenage boys were found murdered in similar circumstances, but the police believed it was solvent abuse that caused their deaths and were unaware that there was a serial killer on the loose.

But the families of the boys knew that was more to the deaths than the police believed and when a new detective arrived on the scene to lead the investigation, he agreed with the families and reviewed the evidence so far, with shocking results....

For 18 year old Katie Rackliff it was just a normal night out. She had recently split up with her boyfriend and her friends thought it would do her good to get out for the evening.

But there was confusion at the end of the evening after the nightclub and Katie didn't go home with her friends as planned. Instead, she met a brutal and terrifying death.

Carol Taggart's 30 year old son Ross reported his mum missing. He explained that they had argued at the house they shared and his mum had stormed out and he was concerned as this was out of character. Despite numerous police appeals there were no positive sightings of Carol.

But then three weeks later Carol's body was found at the holiday park where Carol had a caravan - the body was concealed under a caravan just two spaces away from Carol's.

When Kenneth Noye faced trial for the murder of 21 year old Stephen Cameron, stabbed to death in front of his 17 year old fiancee Danielle Cable just by the M25 in Swanley, Kent, one of the witnesses was 40 year old Alan Decabral. He had called 999 and tried to follow Noye to record his car registration.

Just months later, in the middle of the afternoon Alan Decabral was shot dead in an apparent professional hit in a retail park in Ashford, Kent. Who killed Alan?  And why?

In the early hours of the morning, in Central Park in Plymouth, the bodies of Terry Sweet and Bernie Hawken were discovered lying just 200 yards apart in the park and it was clear that both had suffered a violent assault.

Sadly, soon after the police arrived, Terry died from his injuries, aged just 64. Miraculously, Bernie survived the horrific attack, but his injuries were so severe that he spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Detectives linked this murder to other local missing people, including Susan Rushworth and Shelley Armitage.
