Donanemab: A New Ray of Hope in the Fight Against Alzheimer's

Welcome to the latest episode of our podcast, where we discuss the latest breakthrough in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. In today's episode, we discussed the new monoclonal antibidy, Donanemab, that is offering hope to Alzheimer's patients and their families, and how Donanemab is different from other treatments. Donanemab is a monoclonal antibody that has shown promising results in clinical trials. It works by targeting a protein called amyloid-beta, which is believed to play a significant role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. The drug binds to the amyloid-beta protein and clears it from the brain, reducing the amount of plaque buildup that causes damage to brain cells.

While the results of the clinical trials are promising, there are still many challenges to overcome. Donanemab is expensive and requires regular infusions, which may limit its accessibility. There is also a need for further research to determine the long-term effects of the drug and its efficacy in treating different stages of Alzheimer's.

Gluten, Grain and Brain - Separating The Wheat from The Chaff

This episode is dedicated to the science behind the consumption of  gluten and brain health. There is a notion that gluten is bad for our health and especially for our brain, but does that stem from valid scientific sources, or is it just a food fashion statement? Dean and Ayesha go through a case report of celiac disease, describe what gluten is, the science behind it, and explore the evidence for and against gluten for different populations.

Ayesha is leading a FREE 5-day, Better Brain Nutrition Challenge beginning Saturday, Feb 4th that will teach the basics of brain-healthy eating and give you specific meals you can make for yourself and your family. She will go live each day of the challenge to cook, alongside you, a brain-healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks so that you can see how delicious and simple healthy nutrition can be.

The Good Life with Marc Shulz, PhD

In this episode, we had a conversation with Dr. Marc Schulz, PhD, Associate Director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development. The Harvard Study of Adult Development is the longest scientific study of happiness ever conducted. Radical for its time in 1938, the first-of-its-kind Study is now in its 84th year, going strong with an 84% retention rate.

In his new book,  THE GOOD LIFE co authored by Dr. Robert Waldinger, Dr. Schulz explores the findings of the study so far, and shares how we  can proactively create happiness by focusing on what keeps us healthy rather than what makes us sick. By coupling Harvard case studies with the latest psychological research, Dr. Schulz illuminates:

?     The most common misconceptions about happiness.

?     What social fitness is and how to exercise it.

?     How to understand the influence of our childhood on our adult relationships.

?     What we?re likely getting wrong about achievement and

?    Steps we can take if we want to live a good life.

Dispelling Brain Health Misunderstandings: A Response to Joe Rogan and Max Lugavere

This episode is dedicated to clarification of a podcast between Joe Rogan and Max Lugavere, two popular influencers that have a large audience. They discussed Alzheimer?s disease and brain health in general and some of the information that was shared was not accurate, which can be really harmful.

This is by no means an attack on Rogan or Lugavere. After listening to the conversation, we think Lugavere may not be quite familiar with the data regarding brain health, and it would be important to set the record straight and share the evidence with people and let them decide what?s best for them. Having seen thousands of patients with dementia, whether it?s Alzheimer?s disease, frontotemporal lobe dementia, Lewy Body Dementia and others, we feel it?s our responsibility to share evidence based data as opposed to feel-good, self confirming anecdotes.
